Vascular Events and How They Vary Across Species

Vascular neurologic events are becoming more commonly recognized in veterinary medicine. This session will review the clinical patterns associated with ischemic and hemorrhagic events, emphasizing how signalment, onset, progression, neuroanatomic localization, and concurrent disease can help prioritize vascular disease. Participants will also explore important species-specific differences in anatomy, presentation, diagnostic evaluation, prognosis, and management, with a focus on what can be accomplished in general practice.

• Identify historical and examination findings that increase or decrease suspicion for a vascular neurologic event.
• Compare common causes and clinical presentations of vascular events across veterinary species.
• Formulate a practical diagnostic, treatment, and monitoring plan for patients with suspected ischemic or hemorrhagic disease.
