Urolithiasis is a common cause of urinary tract disease in horses. Diagnosis requires a comprehensive examination, including CBC and clinical chemistry, endoscopy and a complete ultrasound examination of the upper and lower urinary tract. Many horses suffer from renal insufficiency, structural urinary tract abnormalities and multifocal urolithiasis. A thorough workup guides treatment and influences prognosis. Treatment of nephroliths, ureteroliths, cystoliths and urethroliths will be discussed.
