Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a localized cancer treatment that uses electrical pulses to increase chemotherapy uptake into cells within the treatment field. ECT can be used to reduce the risk of recurrence of incompletely excised tumors when revisional surgery and/or radiation therapy are not pursued and can also be used alone for small lesions. Common tumor types treated include mast cell tumors, soft tissue sarcomas and oral lesions. This is a cost effective and logistically flexible alternative for many patients.
