Neurology
Antiseizure medications remain central to epilepsy management, but successful long-term care often requires more than selecting the next drug. This session will examine non-pharmacologic approaches that may complement medical therapy, including dietary modification, supplements, environmental and lifestyle management, surgical interventions, and emerging technologies. The proposed mechanisms, current evidence, appropriate patient selection, and practical limitations of each modality will be discussed so that general practitioners can provide owners with balanced, evidence-informed options.
- Describe the proposed mechanisms and current evidence to non-pharmacological approaches to seizures.
- Identify patients who may benefit from referral or consideration of non-pharmacologic interventions.
- Communicate the potential benefits, limitations, costs, and uncertainties of adjunctive epilepsy therapies to pet owners.
