From Hoof to Snout: Crash Course in Pet Pig Medicine

Companion miniature (mini)pigs continue to be a popular pet in the United States, and owners are increasingly seeking veterinary care for these pets. This sessions will cover preventative healthcare for pet minipigs such as hoof and tusk trimming, routine vaccination, diet recommendations and enrichment recommendations. Additionally, this session will briefly cover diagnosis, treatment and management for common minipig disease conditions such as arthritis, obesity, gastric ulcers, constipation and GI obstruction.

  • Recognize appropriate diagnostics, treatment options, and prevention for the following common pet minipig conditions:
  • Arthritis
  • Gastric ulcers
  • Constipation/Obstipation
  • GI obstructions
  • Obesity
  • Recognize common preventative healthcare for pet minipigs including hoof and tusk trimming, routine vaccination, diet recommendations, and exercise and enrichment options.
