ABC’s of Veterinary Dental Radiology: Full-Mouth Series Simplified

This interactive session provides a practical, step-by-step approach to obtaining consistent, diagnostic-quality full-mouth dental radiographs in dogs and cats. Using a simplified and repeatable framework—the ABCs (Animal, Beam, Catcher)—participants will learn how to accurately align the patient, x-ray beam, and sensor to produce high-quality intraoral images. Emphasis will be placed on improving efficiency, minimizing positioning errors, and optimizing workflow to integrate full-mouth radiographs into comprehensive oral examinations. Additional topics include radiation safety, sensor care, and effective communication of radiographic findings.

• 1. Understand how to position the X-ray tube head, sensor and patient to obtain a diagnostic dental radiograph.
• 2. Recognize if the image meets diagnostic requirements for interpretation.
• 3. Develop trouble-shooting techniques to strategize how to correct positioning to obtain a diagnostic image.
• 4. Learn how to orient an image properly to identify anatomy and tooth identity.
