Non-healing corneal ulcers can be frustrating to treat for everyone involved and can be especially stressful for pet owners. We will cover potential causes of non-healing corneal ulcers including eyelid conformation abnormalities, underlying corneal or ocular surface diseases, infection and indolent corneal ulcers (SCCED). This lecture will aid the practitioner in diagnosing a corneal ulcer, determining whether an ulcer is not healing appropriately, identifying complicating factors, formulating an appropriate treatment plan, and knowing which and when procedures are appropriate.
- Understand potential causes of a non-healing corneal ulcer
- Identify and prioritize the most likely cause of a non-healing ulcer
- Formulate a treatment plan, including when it is appropriate to refer
