Medical errors and mistakes account for 10 percent of all deaths within human populations in the United States, yet in veterinary settings, errors are rarely addressed or properly discussed despite their significant impact on patients, families, and healthcare providers. This presentation examines medical errors in veterinary clinical settings through recent events and anonymized case studies, with emphasis placed on understanding how errors occur, why good people make devastating mistakes, and how veterinary personnel can respond constructively to prevent future occurrences while supporting affected team members.
