Surgical site infections (SSIs) are commonly caused by pathogens introduced into the surgery site at the time of surgery. The risk for SSI is influenced by many factors, including patient health, preparation of the patient and surgical team, the operating environment, specific surgical procedures and techniques, and antibiotic prophylaxis. In this session, we will discuss what clinicians can do to diagnose, treat, and prevent SSIs.
- Recognize risk factors for surgical site infection (SSI) and how they can be reduced
- Understand how to diagnose surgical site infection
- Create an effective plan to manage SSI with local +/- systemic measures
