Surgical Interventions for the Brachycephalic Patient

Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) is a progressive condition that can become life-threatening. BOAS components most often managed surgically are stenotic nares, elongated soft palate, and everted laryngeal saccules. In this session, we’ll discuss the indications for surgery, the surgical procedures themselves, and steps the clinician can take to decrease the risk of complications as well as treat complications if they occur.
- Recognize the indications for surgical management of the patient with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS)
- Understand surgical techniques for addressing stenotic nares, elongated soft palate, and everted laryngeal saccules
- Know the potential risks and complications of BOAS surgery and steps to take if complications occur
