Gold Nanoparticles for Ablation of Small Mast Cell Tumors

Gold nanoparticles and photothermal ablation is possible for small superficial tumors of the skin. The gold particles are activated by laser energy delivered through a fiberoptic probe to selectively destroy tumor cells. Upon being exposed to the near infrared laser energy the particles convert the energy to heat which results in thermal ablation of the tumor.
