Board Investigator, Nevada Board of Veterinary Examiners
Dr. Patricia M. Handal is currently the senior investigator for the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (NSBVME). Since she began the position in 2012, she has investigated 289 cases. Prior to her working with the NSBVME she owned and operated a private practice that provided services for dogs and cats as well as avian and exotic species. In addition to the private practice, Dr. Handal was the managing licensed veterinarian for the South Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A. for the 14-years they operated a shelter. During 9 of those years she also provided exclusive veterinary care to El Dorado County Animal Services, also in South Lake Tahoe. In 2003, the Humane Society honored Dr. Handal with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Handal has been a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians since 1983. She holds a permit from the US Department of Fish and Wildlife for bird rehabilitation, and has worked with wildlife care groups in both California and Nevada. Dr. Handal is also a member and supporter of the World Parrot Trust. Over the past 30-years Dr. Handal has and continues to give talks in her local community to youth groups, grammar, middle, and high school students on responsible pet ownership and careers in the veterinary field.
