It’s Not Over Yet: Managing Anesthesia Recovery

Oct 25, 2019
Veterinary Nurse and Technician's Theater

The recovery period has been identified as the most probable time for an anesthetic related death to occur. Even though the vaporizer has been turned off, it is crucial that patient support, monitoring and record keeping do not end until the patient has made a full recovery. This presentation will discuss the extubation process to include the proper time to extubate a patient; appropriate monitoring and nursing care during recovery; post-operative pain management; and finally, what to do in the event that the patient has a rough recovery.

  • 1. Understand the importance of monitoring during the recovery period
  • 2. Proper extubation techniques
  • 3. How to handle rough recoveries
