Hands-On Labs

Looking for Something Extra?

Our exciting, small-scale hands-on labs offer real experience, taught by industry professionals who will give you personal feedback. This is the moment to practice your skills or learn new ones and ask all the questions you've always wanted to ask.

No More DIY(ourself), Let’s DIT(ogether) Workshop

There are many skills we can perform, tasks we can accomplish on our own, and yet should we? From placing IVCs to intubating a patient, there are a lot of steps that we cannot miss, and having a team member that’s got your back truly makes a difference. The same holds true when creating materials for clinical skill training. You can do-it yourself (DIY) or we can be more impactful when we do-it-together (DIT).

We’ll be discussing how to seek out and utilize materials already within your practice, and how that can get you started. This won’t just up your training game, it’s gonna change it entirely.

Learning Objectives:

▪ Recognize materials in your practice that can be repurposed

▪ Understand the concepts of innovation & empowerment and their application

▪ Learn that “teamwork makes the dream work” isn’t cringe, it’s crucial

▪ Utilize the provided handouts to continue paying this concept forward

Extracapsular CrCL Repair and MPL Workshop

Cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) insufficiency and medial patellar luxations are common orthopedic problems in dogs and cats. Successful treatment of these conditions requires accurate diagnosis and assessment. This course will provide up-to-date information on the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of cranial cruciate ligament insufficiency and patellar luxation. Lectures and labs will emphasize techniques that can readily be performed in practice. Additionally, this course will cover Medial Patella Luxation (MPL), a common orthopedic condition in dogs that often occurs alongside CrCL insufficiency. MPL results from improper alignment of the quadriceps mechanism, leading to patellar displacement and varying degrees of lameness.

Participants will learn how to differentiate partial versus complete tears of the CrCL. The course will include sections on stifle extracapsular repair, treatment of meniscal tears and meniscal release, and treatment of medial patella luxation using the latest technology and surgical techniques. Participants will also learn how to treat CrCL in patients having concomitant MPL. Following the lecture and case review, participants will perform all these different techniques on plastic bone models.

Postoperative management will also be discussed.

Workshop Objectives

Hands-on training led by expert instructors equals enhanced proficiency and improved surgical skills. Build your confidence with accuracy and efficiency:

  • Study stifle extracapsular repair, treatment of meniscal tears and meniscal release and treatment of MPL.
  • Become familiarized with the latest technology and surgical techniques to utilize.
  • Perform all these different techniques on plastic bone models.
  • Learn quality postoperative management techniques.
